Frequently Asked Questions

For which age groups do you offer tuition?

Our 11+ tuition course runs from the October of Year 5 through to the September of Year 6. We do not recommend starting 11+ specific tuition any sooner.

What is the maximum class size?

The maximum number of students in a class is ten.

When are classes held?

We run sessions every weekday after school and into the early evening, as well as on Saturdays. Groups are scheduled early in year in which tuition starts and we are typically able to accommodate preferences for days and times, subject to availability. Click on Term Dates to see the current weekly timetable.

Is the course specific to the Bucks 11+?

The course has been designed to prepare children to take the Buckinghamshire Transfer Test. The test is currently produced by GL Assessment and includes verbal reasoning, mathematics and non-verbal reasoning. We have experience of a range of different test formats over the years and are able to rapidly adapt the syllabus should the test change in future. Private school entrance exams may be different (although are often based on similar content). Please contact us if you have any questions on the suitability of the course.

Do you have places available and what are the fees?

Our reservation lists typically fill up about two years before a course starts. However, we also maintain a waiting list and can usually accommodate later bookings. Please contact us for up to date information on course availability, fee structure or to make a reservation.

Where does the name Twist in the Tale come from?

The business initially started as a children's bookshop on Station Road, Amersham in 2004 and began to offer tuition services in an upstairs classroom. This grew rapidly and the bookshop closed when we moved to our current premises on Sycamore Road. In total, we have been delivering 11+ tuition for nearly 20 years.
